Introduction

In pursuit of the vision of JSSMVP founders & leaders towards social upliftment, the Department of MBA & Research Centre was set up in the year 2004 at JSSATE, Bengaluru as a renewed commitment and dedication to mass education. Extending premium quality education for Management aspirants, the Department offers 2 years MBA program and is also a Research Centre for scholars to pursue PhD in Business Administration. The programs are affiliated to VTU, Belagavi, approved by Govt of Karnataka, and are recognised by AICTE, New Delhi.
The Department has a sanctioned intake of 60 students with a seat matrix of 50% from PGCET conducted by Karnataka Education Authority and the remaining 50% Management Quota. Outcome Based Education is being practiced in Teaching & Learning Process. The students have an option to choose dual specialisation in combination of Finance, Human Resource or Marketing which caters to the needs of all the Management areas of corporate world. The Department has a highly experienced and qualified faculty consisting of 3 Doctorates and the rest pursuing PhD who dedicate themselves to equip the students in all the thrust areas of Management and Research. The VTU curriculum is well supported with add on co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to transform the students into future Management Professionals and Entrepreneurs. Institution’s Training & Placement Cell organises Soft Skills programmes and campus placements for MBA students. The Department has over 15 batches of alumni who support in Industry-Academic Knowledge Transfer in addition to placements assistance. The Department also has well stocked library supplemented by Digital Library and Wi-Fi facility. The campus also houses fully furnished Girls and Boys Hostel with full-time wardens. As part of the curriculum, the students are encouraged to participate in Intercollegiate Management Fests, Seminars, Conferences, etc with exposure to practical world through Internships and live Projects. The Institution’s Cricket ground, Basketball & Acrylic Synthetic Tennis courts also inspire the students to excel in Intercollegiate, State and National Sports competitions.
The Department is a recognised Research Centre for PhD in Business Administration affiliated to VTU, Belagavi inspiring the young faculty fraternity towards Innovation and Invention. Till date, Four research scholars have been awarded with the Doctorate Degree and currently Six scholars are pursuing research in the areas of Finance, HR and Marketing and publish their work in reputed Journals and Conferences. The research scholars are facilitated with Digital Library to access Online journals, Statistical Packages for Data Analysis and Turn-It-In Software for free Plagiarism check. The scholars also participate in Workshops and FDPs in the areas of Research Methodology and Data Analytics. Currently the Department has 3 approved Research Supervisors guiding the scholars in all the areas of Management.

The Department of MBA & Research Centre has been striving continuously towards providing Quality Management Education since its inception. The curriculum is well supplemented with Student Development Activities to mould the young graduates into Management Professions who excel both in personal and professional life. Series of extra-curricular and beyond the curriculum activities including Personality development programmes, Corporate Alumni Mentoring sessions, Industrial Visits, Management Fests, Students Seminars, Workshops on Research Methodology & Research Analytics, Guest Lectures on current trends in Management, Business Plan & Quiz Competitions, Excel & Tally Training sessions, etc focus on the all - round development of students’ fraternity. A fresh graduate who enters the Institution is instilled with competence and zeal ready to face the corporate world enduring all challenges in the work life. Soft Skills Training provided at the end of every semester also ensures the students to inculcate all Technical, Analytical and Interview skills to leap forward in professional accomplishments. The Department not only ensures the students are professionally competent but also blossom as ethically and socially responsible citizens.

Program Assessment Committee – PAC is constituted to assess the academic process of the program.

The following are the roles of the Program Assessment Committee:

1. Assist in framing Course Outcomes and mapping COs to POs / PSOs.
2. Contribute in the Teaching Learning Process of the program.

Department publishes biannual newsletter “Samsmrithi”. This newsletter projects all the activities conducted during each semester in different verticals of teaching and learning, development and scholarly activities of student and faculty.

Research Initiatives

VTU Research Centre in the Department of Management Studies was started in the year 2008-09 with provision for Ph.D (Part Time) with a specialization of Marketing, Finance and Human Resource. Since then, the research facility is available for research scholars to carry out research in their specific area. Students and research scholars are encouraged to take up interdisciplinary research in various domains of Business Administration. 4 research scholars have been awarded with PhD and 4 research scholars are pursuing research presently. Two professors are guiding 4 Ph.D. students in various fields presently. Open Seminars for Research Scholars are being conducted at regular intervals to assess their Research progress.

Students of the MBA department have excelled in Extra-curricular activities that are conducted in the department and students have participated and won prizes in many inter-college and university levels. The activities are listed here.

The department conducts co-curricular activities like student development programs, workshops, seminars to support the curriculum delivery. These events will give exposure in current Management areas and help the students to develop interpersonal, communication, team building, leadership and societal skills.

In addition to the chalk and board method of teaching the faculty adopt various methods of teaching such as flipped classroom, on site teaching, case study demonstration, seminar assignments, National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) video class room, demonstration through working models and flip grid assignment.
