Jean Henry Dunant, a Swiss businessman is founder of Red Cross. The reason behind the Red Cross Movement is the Battle of Solferino fought in Italy in year 1859 between the Austrian army and the alliance of France and Italy armies. This battle was bitter one and, in the end, the whole battle field was strewn with dead bodies and the wounded soldiers left to suffer without medical Aid. Jean Henry Dunant while travelling on a business mission saw the ghastly scene in the battlefield and started relief operations to all the wounded soldiers without any discrimination with the help of the local villagers. The Red Cross was officially established in the year 1863. All over the world, the birth day of Henry Dunant, the 8th May is observed as “World Red Cross Day” every year.
