JSS Academy of Technical Education, Bengaluru (JSSATEB) is actively involved in diverse areas of research and offers consultancy services to industry. Currently there is more thrust on inter disciplinary research activities. Sponsored research projects investigated by the faculty and supported by Government and research organizations have helped the Institute in setting up state of the art Laboratory facilities and equipment necessary for carrying out high quality research. Research projects of academic nature as well as those aimed at solving industrial problems are being pursued.
JSSATEB strongly believe that Research is integral part of the Teaching Learning process and a powerful form of learning by doing. Our students enrich their education through engaging in frontline, faculty-led research. Research flourishes in all the Departments and across the disciplines. This definitely be helpful to transform the leading-edge technology into a new horizon.
All the Departments have been recognized as a Research centre under Visvesvaraya technological University, Belagavi. The research centers at JSSATEB focus on finding solutions to disruptive interdisciplinary / cross-disciplinary research problems leading to a significant societal and/or economic impact. Through its extensive network of skilled research faculty, graduate students and collaborators, the Institute is working in advance research areas, creating unique research training opportunities and increasing its competitiveness.
Research at JSSATEB is an integral part of the curriculum and a major component of the teaching-learning process. The institute has attracted significant research grants from various funding agencies, and various industries.
The Office of the Dean-Research facilitates and coordinate all research and development activities of the Institute. The communication and coordination work, compilation and dissemination of scientific and technical information, registration for patent, etc. are attended by this Office.
JSSATEB provide a wide extent of research opportunities to explore new path in the concerned areas, to promote Research & Innovation among the faculty & students.

• To strengthen the academic research, undertake sponsored projects and consultancy.
• To establish collaborations and work closely with the industries.
• To receive funds from external agencies to support research activities in the college and for carrying out projects.
• To initiate and coordinate the inter disciplinary research and consultancy activities.
• To guide and support the faculties and students to submit research proposals to funding agencies.
• To guide and support the faculties and students to work towards achieving the “Best” and encourage them to obtain “Patents”.
• To encourage the faculties and students to take up innovative projects and participate in National and Inter National competitions.
The institution has research centers in “Ten” Departments recognized by the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi offering Ph.D. and M.S. (Engg) by research programs. The institute assure for its scholars a broad and deep research navigation. In total 181 Research scholars have registered for the Ph.D. program in various research centers and more than 55 scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degree. The center helps in developing co-operative and complimentary research among various Departments under JSSATEB to explore advanced technologies. The Centre holds periodical Review meetings on the progress of research being carried out for Ph.D. as well as of the funded projects. The Centre also guides in writing projects, scientific papers leading to publications in peer reviewed refereed Journals, as well as in identifying results of research for filing patents.

The following facilities are extended by the institution:
● Faculty members are encouraged to involve UG/PG student’s research projects.
● Departments have established facilities with necessary software’s like Cadence, MATLAB, Optimizer, etc. and equipment Gas Chromatograph, Spectrophotometer, VCR Testwig Engine, Eight Channel Data Acquisition card along with necessary software and accessories.
● Research work is monitored by the concerned research guide and DC Committee members.
There shall be provision for the following categories of candidates for admission to Ph.D. programs
● Full-Time: Candidates who shall pursue Ph.D. program on full time basis
● Part-Time: Time: In-service candidates having a minimum professional experience of one year after his/her PG Degree are eligible to pursue Ph.D. program on a part time basis. (Refer VTU guidelines for more details)
The candidates shall possess a Master’s Degree in Engineering / Technology from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi or any other recognized University with an eligible marks/ minimum CGPA as per VTU.
